Happy thanksgiving America!

Happy thanksgiving everyone! Thanksgiving was originally a Massachusetts holiday. Abraham Lincoln turned a local holiday into a national holiday to remind us to give thanks for the blessings we receive.

Sadly, many poor and destitute won't have much to give thanks for as they struggle just to provide for their basic needs.

Pope Francis, admonishes Western capitalist countries that they have an obligation to help their own poor and destitute.

This has always been my divine mission, other than being The North American Snow Queen, to advocate for the disfranchised and destitute. To advocate for their needs and to encourage positive changes that benefits all people.

Lumi joins us in the later half as we talk about what I am hoping to achieve in my future equipment upgrades. Lumi points out, somewhat with humor, that while a newer higher resolution camera could be of use. it will increase, quite noticeably, my skin imperfections. NTSC is 720x480 (viewable area) whereas PAL is 720x576 (viewable area)

Incidentally, that black stripe on the left side of the frame is from the camera, a Panasonic WV-CP234. NTSC 480TVL camera. It is not due to our processing of the analogue video source.

updates on volunteers needed, why Televison is failing

The volunteers needed video didn't quite come out as I was planning. Sheri, the interviewer, wanted to do one when I was in a bad mood. Yes I need volunteers. I don't know why she wanted to ask if I need naked subjects. That is not the kind of videos I do. I am an advocate for the poor not an advocate for smut.

People wonder why Television has lost its mojo. Simple! They are serving CRAP! Cable is gouging the consumer. Even broadband is hurting. Get decent TV shows and lower your prices on broadband and you may be able to turn things around. But, you are running out of time.

My dedication to my life's work

Which of my studios do you like better? Why do you like it better?

I want to continue to improve my work and dedication to the public good. Sometimes, that may seem pointless, however, I believe in my work and plan to be doing it until the day I am dead.

I always am looking for your comments/concerns and questions. I want to hear what you think of the direction my videos are going. Do you like them? What should I change or improve on?

I am working on improving my technical excellence and presentation methods as I go.

BTW, for those who are unaware. I am phasing out NTSC to migrate to PAL as it gives more horizontal resolution. That was why I was rearranging the video configuration.

Hypothermia, frostbite and frostnip.- Oh my!

It is time to refocus back on to my Snow Queen duties as we are approaching my season, starting on Yule (December 21).

Today, I talk about how to protect your loved ones and yourself from exposure to the colder temperatures.

With temperatures dropping tonight, in Connecticut to -5ºc you can expect hypothermia, frostnip and potential severe frostbite. This could result in amputations of extremeties and/or death.

But, proper clothing and common sense will help in preventing such injuries.

When the PAL 700TVL camera is ordered in December, we will have much more video resolution and thus the picture will be MAJOR better.

The Studio and the Camera, Setup and frustrations.

Finally we got the PAL setup working right. I don't have the camera yet so I set my Iphone 3gs to PAL output. Figured out the mites that kept Vidi 0.4.7 from working. (you need to change the Formac Studio TVR to use DV-PAL instead of DV-NTSC/DV-NTSCPRO using the hardware's software utility) Personally, if you don't have the Formac Studio fs10 software, you are truly SCREWED! You need it to set your video capture unit from Formac. The software is on the internet. It is a universal app and will work on most all OSX versions. I know nothing of the Mac OS9 version of the program or where you can find it. Sorry the picture is chopped off. but, it is NTSC and this video was recorded at the standard NTSC frame size of 720x480.

When the PAL 700TVL camera is ordered in December, we will have much more video resolution and thus the picture will be MAJOR better.

First video done in New Studio. Shot under photo CFL lighting

This is the first video done in the New, albeit quite bare, studio. I used a color test pattern to finally fix the colors that have been muffed up for almost a YEAR! Now things look better. Hope to upgrade camera  to at least 800 TV Lines in the PAL format as I HATE NTSC! Almost all of my equipment can handle PAL (several flavors) without a hassle. Planning to go with European PAL format.

Need new camera to get rid of the graininess that results from using a 480TV Line NTSC camera, Camera is our regular Panasonic WV-CP234 with 25mm C mount film lens.

TTY/TDD cell phone test update.

Tested my ameriphone dialogue IIP with coco phone handset on iPhone 3GS using google.voice and t-mobile. It works if you turn volume to max and handset is tight and snug in the coupler.

Use your TTY/TDD with your Iphone! Utratec intelemodem IT2 review/demo

Are you hard of hearing/hearing impaired and/or deaf? Want to use your tty with your modern cell phone? If so, thats may provide you with the solution.

I bought one of those retro telephone handsets for my Iphone 3gs that works well with my Ameriphone Dialogue IIP tty.

I also did an unboxing of the "Coco Phone" handset and show you how to set it up with your tty!

I also show you how to hook a Ultratec Intelemodem IT2 to a computer that does not have a RS232C serial port. Using a Keyspan 4 port serial to USB adaptort. I can use either Zterm or Minicom. I can connect to TTY callers and they can connect with me! the IT2 translates from ASCII to Baudout and also translates incoming Baudout to ASCII. This simple HAYES (AT Command set) modem can be used with any computer that can do 300bps. It will work with a Commodore 64 with a RS232 interface. You can use cbterm, simpleterm or any other program that uses the userport. It should work with a swiftlink RS232 interface as well.

Lastly, we talk incandescent vs CFL lighting for studio work and my own observations of using both. I show you some low cost options for your home studio in addition to, warnings that could save you from making bad lighting choices.

Incidentally, Lumi likes the incandescent look! What do you think? Granted, I don't like roasting like a Thanksgiving turkey in a large oven!

Do you like the look of Incandescent lamps in this video? Incandesant bulbs have a color rendering index of 100, where as many CFLs and Flouressant lamps have a CRI of less than 95. Most of the typical home bulbs have a CRI of around 80. the Julius Studio bulbs that I orded are around the mid 90s.

We welcome all comments/suggestions and/or complaints. Just be aware we also welcome private email comments as well. Lumi and I will do our best to answer your questions. Depending on the question, it may take time as we will have to research the answer.

Studio lighting update

Found some inexpensive incandessant medium base clamp lights with reflectors at Lowe, work great. Just don't mix color temperature sources as it make things look funky. Still working on best set up for the space and budget.
