raspberry pi 2b composite Color CRT monitor demo

In this video, I show you my Raspberry Pi 2 Model B on my BMC color composite monitor.

This monitor was common in the 1980s with Commodore 64 and Apple IIe computers.

Song played (in part) "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Bugles, This song was released around the time this monitor was made. It also was the FIRST song played on MTV when it started broadcasting.

This monitor works OK but I need to find a font that looks better on it. This same font looks great on my 1995 RCA home theater 27" console TV connected by composite input.

Clearly, I need to tweak a few things such as brightness/contrast to get the image the best I can get it. The overscan settings were fairly conservative as it didn't have too much overscan to compensate for. For the most part, you can use this without some gettig used to. Having cut my teeth on these when working with my Commodore 64 and Vic-20s I am fully aware of what they can/cannot do. I am surprised it shows 80 columns as well as it does. Anyone got a font that works better on this monitor, let me know. I could set it to 40x25 but mp3blaster needs 80x25 minimum to work.

I will be using the console/cli mode most of the time but it works fine in GUI mode with the default window manager.

Sorry picture is a little fuzzy. my Iphone 4s lens was a little dirty.

bcast03122016Do you know where you're going to?

I take the questions from Diana Ross's song from Mahogany and I give my answers to the metaphorical questions. Dory joins me in the second part and gives hers.

Here is the complete set of lyrics for your info:
å
"Theme From Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To)"

Do you know where you're going to
Do you like the things that life is showing you
Where are you going to
Do you know

Do you get
What you're hoping for
When you look behind you
There's no open doors
What are you hoping for
Do you know

Once we were standing still in time
Chasing the fantasies
That filled our minds
You knew how I loved you
But my spirit was free
Laughin' at the questions
That you once asked of me

Do you know where you're going to
Do you like the things that life is showing you
Where are you going to
Do you know

Now looking back at all we've planned
We let so many dreams
Just slip through our hands
Why must we wait so long
Before we'll see
How sad the answers
To those questions can be

Do you know where you're going to
Do you like the things that life is showing you
Where are you going to
Do you know

Do you get
What you're hoping for
When you look behind you
There's no open doors
What are you hoping for
Do you know

The studio camera cable project, lousy audio

I forgot to put my iPhone to airplane and the GSM transmitter tweeted into the iRig XLR mic adaptor. I was unable to filter the crud out. Fortunately. it is not constant but it is annoying!

The video is about a new way to rewire the Cat-5 Baluns using Zip cord (flex cable) to be more durable than the thin crappy Cat-5 leads.

This worked out well, No noticeable signal degradation with the new configuration.

bcast03072016Lexmark E232 toner refill and toner chip replacement

Refilling my Lexmark E232 toner cartridge and replacing the old Toner chip with a new one.

I have had this printer since 2003 and it has been very nice to me. Unlike some of the newer printers,  It does not have a combined Toner and Drum unit. The two parts snap together and can be replaced independently of each.

Sorry you didn't see me actually pour the toner, I had the camera too low.

I placed a little toner on the table to show you how fine it is. and coughed a little as I blew it towards you. It is super fine and if it gets into your clothing, you will want to wash your clothing in cold water and only dry them on a clothesline or a dryer set to no-heat. That is to prevent the toner from setting on your clothing as it is set by heat to fuse to the paper or cloth.

bcast03032016Saved $25 on my Electric bill this month

Why is saving $25 a big deal? It is a big deal as it gave me the funds to buy some toner for my laser printer! That was $10.13 btw.

I am not sure if we will be buying the Raspberry Pi this month as I may need to save some more funds for it. There is also an interesting twist.

The twist is, the Raspberry Pi 3 just came out. this 1.25ghz beast is faster but runs WAY too HOT for my tastes. It also is going for much more on eBay. Several listings show this going for $50+

Because of these two reasons, I am still lookng to get a Raspberry Pi 2b as it should be cooler and the price is doable.

Lastly, the Raspberry Pi 3, despite being 64bit. does not have a 64bit Rasbian image yet. That is because it is so new. That would be like having a PowerPC G5 with only a 32bit MAC OS X operating system. I will wait before I consider that model.

For my needs, a simple HTML 4.01 web server, A Raspberry Pi 2 would do just fine. I will be starting my web page design on my  older Linux server and later porting it to the Raspberry Pi when I do finally buy it.
